CHARACTER INFO

Character: Dion Lesage
Canon: Final Fantasy XVI
Age: 28

Background Information: What's that? A wiki, you ask? Why yes!

Personality:
First Impressions
Bards tell of Dion the Bold, who has done a lot of things according to accounts that rhyme, but they are also not far from the mark. The tales describe Dion as humble, kind, benevolent and chivalrous: a true example of a knight in all respects, and truly this is the man whom you meet when first introduce. He carries himself with confidence and poise, grace and humility with kind eyes and attentive gaze that make someone feel seen without being overwhelming. That being said, he does have a noble bearing in stance and in demeanor that tends to command the attention of a room whenever he enters it, and his quietly stalwart manner gives an air of confidence and faith that he will do just what he sets forth to do without doubt.

And it comes at a price. Awakening as the Dominant of Bahamut before you can walk puts a heavy weight on the Crown Prince of a nation who worship the Eikon as a faithful servant of their patron deity, Greagor. Dion can't remember a time when the weight of expectation didn't crowd his shoulders, but he's shouldered the burden willingly. He carries a deep love of his people and his goddess, eagerly taking on the mantle of Sanbreque's holy protector, its living symbol of divinity and sovereignty and bending his every devotion to embodying those expectations.

Driving Forces and Goals
Dion is heavily driven by duty and morality, as well as his honest and steadfast nature. He believes deeply in justice, honor, and a love for his country and people, and is not afraid to put to the sword those who would undermine them as evidenced by his willingness to stage a coup when evidence came forward that Empress Anabella and her son, his younger brother Olivier, meant to usurp the throne of Sanbreque and nearly succeeded. He was raised to believe that the Empire were Greagor's chosen people, that the Emperor ruled as Her will on earth, and that his sacred duty was to uphold the will of the Emperor and to shield innocents from harm in Greagor's name. It was to that end that he founded the Holy Order of the Knights Dragoon, who in turn became stalwart protectors of the Will of Greagor, at least that's what they were led to believe.

His father served as Holy Emperor, a position the Church of Greagor teaches is his by divine right, and Dion has always stood as a staunch defender of that belief and as the arm of the Seat of the Emperor in the field during times of war, a position he took very seriously. As a young man, his belief in his father, the Empire, and his own calling inspired him to throw himself into becoming the model knight of Sanbreque, and even further inspired him to found the Holy Order of the Knights Dragoon, all in service to the Emperor, who he followed unerringly. He has near limitless love for his father and admiration for him, believing his darker path: the conquest, his comments about the expendability of Imperial citizens, and even his decision to abdicate the throne to Olivier were not by his own heart, but manipulated by Ultima and Anabella. In fact, Dion's decision to bring the Dragoons to bear against her and her son was never meant to destroy his father, but to liberate what Dion saw as a good, holy, and admirable man from their influence.

He is loyal and true and given to self-sacrifice, as well as earnest and honest in his dealings. He doesn't balk at the idea of debt, and will do whatever it takes to see what he views as favor repaid. When an orphan medicine girl nursed him back to health after Twinside, he sent his most trusted soldier and closest confidant to retrieve her and see her to safety, but also gave him a sack of gil to make sure she was well-cared for, siting that he "always pays his debts". This was also in preparation for repaying another, a oath he sworn to Joshua to join him in his fight against Ultima after the matter of his family was handled, leaving the remnants of the Dragoons to aid Dhalmekia in its defense against the Akashic in order to join the fighters of the Hideaway on the front lines on the continent of Ash.

Another driving force in Dion's life has always been his friendship and relationship with Terence. Having awakened as the Dominant of Bahamut so young, Dion was always set apart from his peers, not only because he was the prince of Sanbreque, but also because he embodied the belief of an entire faith let alone a nation. It was a burden Dion shouldered gladly and willingly, but the young Terence, his peer in age if not in standing, never saw the Dominant or the Prince when he met Dion. The two were fast friends from the time they were seven, and Terence's devotion to Dion, and Dion's reliance upon Terence as a steadying and supportive force, has never wavered. Even being born the younger son of a lesser noble house, Terence proved his devotion in the way he doggedly threw himself into training and rose through the ranks in order to remain at Dion's side, and Dion always deferred to Terence's shoulder, even if his advice was beyond the ability for him to follow. Perhaps the most shining example of how deep Dion's love for Terence goes, when they were 18, they were in a border skirmish and Dion, disregarding all though of his own well-being to spite his important to the Empire and to the mission, took a near-fatal blow meant for Terence. The young knight nursed Dion back to health and confessed his love, Dion demanding they forget this act of friendship they've had for the last ten years. They've been a couple ever since.

Character Flaws
It's a franchise standard that the Dragoon character in any given party is prone to bouts of melancholia and tend to take things on themselves rather than rely on others and Dion is no exception. While he does stand as a pillar of righteousness and good for the Empire, he does so as sort of a mythical figure. Rarely is he seen speaking with anyone outside his very small circle, which amounts almost exclusively to Terence. The latter even having to remind him 10 years on to trust in his men should something need doing rather than doing it himself.

His idealism serves as a double-edged sword, proving itself in a steel will, but also a fragile mind when those ideals are proven false, his devotion blinding him until there is no other option but to see the truth, and that truth can drown him. If it does, he runs the risk of losing control of his Eikon, which happened when he nearly destroyed all of Twinside. He's also forthright to a fault, opting for the direct path rather than resorting to subterfuge, which leads him to sometimes trust others and openly and fully as he would present if the roles were reversed.

Abilities & Inventory:
Skills: Dion is a gifted strategist, tactician, and warrior, typically wielding a halberd in combat. He's trained as a dragoon, which in his world is an acrobatic lance-wielding fighter that uses leaps and other gymnastic talents in battle. But really, the bards actually sing songs about him and he's only 28.
Canon Abilities:
Dominant of Bahamut
Priming/Semi-Priming: Bahamut is a large dragon being whose form and power Dion can manifest by drawing power from the world around him, Aether, into physical form. He can fully Prime, which is actually transforming into the form of Bahamut itself, which grants him full access to Bahamut's abilities. Bahamut is a light-aspected Eikon, capable of producing explosive lasers of light that can devastate swaths of land at a time as well and rupture holes in just about anything. While Dion is never shown in canon in his semi-primed state, taking inspiration from the other Dominants in game, I assume he is surrounded by shimmering light and manifests Bahamut's wings.

Possible Nerf: Not only is Bahamut massive with a wingspan longer than a football field, he is also very powerful and has the potential for widespread devastation. As such, I would like to make it very difficult for him to Prime Bahamut, and unable to hold it for more than 10-15 minutes before he has to recharge for a day, if he's able to Prime at all.

Light Magic: Without priming at all, Dion can use light-based powers in a variety of ways: flashes of light, laser beams, as well as shockwaves of power and infusing his weapon with power for a more explosive effect.

All Dominants are attuned to Aether, can use magic without aid, have superhuman strength, speed, agility, and durability. Channeling Aether causes a slow petrification of the flesh referred to as the Crystals' Curse. Dion's right forearm has started to petrify and causes him pain, so he won't be priming often if he can avoid it. He doesn't need to inspire legions as Bahamut here.
